
He served in the U. S. Army Air Force Quartermaster Corp as
a sergeant, from October 1939 to November 1945. His duty was in
California and New Mexico and then two years in Europe. In New
Mexico, Pord made wooden model airplanes, literally hundreds of
them which he sold to pay for his bar and food bills. It was also
in New Mexico where he met his future wife... Wilma Wylie. They
were engaged to be married until he got his shipping out orders,
which changed that. Wilma wrote a letter to his mother introducing
herself...a lovely letter. They were married in 1946 after the
war was over, in the Methodist church on North Fifth street with
only Mom and Don, the best man, in attendance.
